Lucasraps slammed for calling ‘Amapiano’ wack and boring

Lucasraps – South African rapper and singer.

The past few days have been quite busy thanks to A-Reece dropping his new song titled “Achilles” and unfortunately it had me distracted from Lucasraps getting dragged on Twitter courtesy of the below tweet in which he said;

Lucasraps continued by saying;

Now the above are very bold statements from Lucasraps and it had amapiano fans and listeners alike in a bit of a frenzy where some Twitter users opted to defend his take, and on the other side, we had Twitter users dragging the living hell out of him.

I just want to go through some tweets where Twitter users were against what Lucasraps had to say;

Paballo Maseko from Pretoria tweeted;

Now I could probably name three Lucasraps songs, off the top of my head I have “uMuthi (Voodoo)” which just he released recently, there is also “Without Me” which is probably his best song to date, as well as “Derr Boy”, so I think I could survive Squid Games based off that.

Watch the official music video of ‘Derr Boy’ by Lucasraps below;

Another Twitter user, Shaun Keyz, tweeted;

Now what is written in the above tweet is true as I have only ever seen Lucasraps perform at night clubs or at high schools, which speaks to the position he holds in the music industry, and it is not really fruitful if we are comparing it to his peers but I say that respectfully.

Another Twitter user, Nivo from Johannesburg tweeted;

Now I’m on board with the message in the above tweet, I mean if you intend on having your music gain some traction, let it speak for you because all the antics and the tweets come across as clout chasing and it is not a smart move to make if you want longevity in the music industry, that is just my opinion.

Another Twitter user with the handle,@Viiews, tweeted;

South Africans have a higher chance of defeating load shedding than randomly coming across your song.

Keletso from Pretoria tweeted:

Ori, a digital creator and columnist at IOL News tweeted;

Another Twitter user, @PovertykillerB from Cape Town tweeted;

Twitter user, @uSefa_06, tweeted;

Now damn, I’ll admit that this stuff was funny as Lucasraps was getting dragged in real-time, and it is insane because he is really talented but unfortunately people don’t care about that when you decide to disrespect an entire music genre.

But you get the point though, the above are just a few tweets of Lucasraps getting dragged for the whole day, and people were not holding back.

Now I can’t help but think what prompted Lucasraps to tweet this, I mean we all know that amapiano is currently dominating the South African music industry, so let us pray for hip-hop gentlemen.

Maybe Lucasraps feels disgruntled that he is not getting as many gigs because of the amapiano artists taking up those spots or could it be that because of the feud he has with Blxckie, maybe he feels this way because we all know that Blxckie doubles in amapiano here and there, so maybe this is his way of taking a shot at him, or maybe he just genuinely feels that way about amapiano and it being wack because he is a hip hop purist.

Regardless of what his reason is, him tweeting this is crazy and bold, and I say this because he is essentially blocking a lot of opportunities for himself by expressing his viewpoint.

I mean I don’t really see a lot of artists or event organizers who love amapiano, actually appreciating what Lucasraps had to say.

Therefore Lucasraps just tweeting this, is ignorance in my opinion, I mean amapiano is a homegrown music sound that South Africans are trying to export to the rest of the world.

I mean how many lives has it changed?, how many families are being fed from this genre dominating the South African music industry? and I can say countless.

You have global superstars like Beyoncé and Chris Brown incorporating amapiano into their music, which is a huge win for South Africa.

All I know for sure is that amapiano is dominating the music space and for someone to trash it speaks to another level of ignorance, I’m not going to sit here and say that I love amapiano and I listen to it every day because honestly I don’t, I’m a hip hop fan through and through, but at the same time I can respect the amapiano genre and what it is doing for the artists and the whole South Africa as a country.

If anything, Lucasraps could actually learn from the amapiano artists and actually elevate his music career, because honestly speaking, he really needs it.

Tweets like these don’t help his career in any form, they actually just harm it and it is actually crazy because as overly critical as people are towards his career, he is also a detriment to it as well.

And with all that said, you guys let me know your thoughts on this. Do you agree with Lucasraps about amapiano being wack?
